About Hopkins

Welcome to Hopkins, a small fishing village on the coast of Southern Belize. Hopkins is located in the Stann Creek District, with the nearest local airport being in Dangriga Town. Visitors flying in to the Belize International Airport can book a shuttle or rent a vehicle to travel to Hopkins, a 2.5 hour drive from the airport. Another option is flying from the Belize International Airport to Dangriga, which is about a 15-minute flight, and then driving from the airport in Dangriga to Hopkins, which is 30 minutes long.

Hopkins is home to about 2,000 residents who are all known for being welcoming and friendly. In fact, Dangriga is locally known as the culture capital of Belize. Hopkins is the center of the Garifuna culture, best known for traditional seafood dishes and music, both of which you can learn about directly from locals through our activities at Almond Beach Resort. Dishes at the Paddle House are strongly influenced by Garifuna culture and you’ll be able to taste a unique take on traditional seafood dishes.

The village now thrives on tourism and many local restaurants and craft shops can be found for exploring. Almond Beach Resort has complimentary bikes perfect for a ride through the village and golf carts available for rent. If you’re looking for a day where the village comes to life, visit Hopkins on November 19, which is celebrated as Garifuna Settlement Day. The day is filled with drumming, traditional food, and a re-enactment of the Garifuna arriving to Belize.

Visiting Hopkins means relaxing on golden beaches, enjoying the views of the Caribbean Sea, and being immersed in culture. Almond Beach Resort is your home base to explore all things Hopkins.
